Parkview School Cluster - School Sports Coordinator Programme
PE PLUS - by Jasmine Gray 9BNC
A group of Year 9 girls, Mr Rabone and Mrs Canning, went to after school activities for six weeks doing Daemon dance, boxing and gym. We also had a day out at the Chill Factor-e in Manchester, which has real snow and a temperature of -4 degrees. We learnt to snowboard , which was easier said then done, but a lot of fun. We also went on the luge and slides and had a bruising, good time.
Sports Volunteer Award Nine pupils have started on a sports volunteer programme that could lead to them being top coaches in the area. Part of their programme is to take coaching awards in a variety of activities. The main part of their course though is to work with clubs in the area or at school, helping younger pupils enjoy physical activity and develop their skills. Pupils who find they enjoy this type of venture can continue the award during their further education years.
Abbi, Rhys and John have already reached the Level 2 of this award and Rhys, Damon and John will be taking the football referees award in September this year. Once qualified they will be paid for their refereeing.
If you would like to be involved in our sports volunteer programme or wish to take coaching awards, you should contact Mr Rabone
Albie
During the National Sporting week in July, Albie, a dance choreographer from London worked with 42 pupils from Parkview. Over 3 days each pupil participated in over 9 hours of Dance workshops. The workshops ended with a 25 minute performance by all the pupils to an audience of over 200 pupils, teachers and parents.
This year Albie’s workshop had a difference. Albie was assisted by Teaching assistants Mrs Cook and Mrs Gordon and two year 11 pupils, Natalie Martin and Natasha Thompson.
Albie will be back next year and we look forward to him sharing his expertise and enthusiasm with us for a 5th year.
