Thorncliffe School Web Update: Summer 2008 Top up Swimming Programme:

Congratulations to the following Year 9 and 10 Swimming ‘Buddies’ who helped improve the confidence of the Year 6 non-swimmers from Ormsgill & Victoria Junior Schools: Emma Parke, Rachel Tyson, Emily Sanderson, Adam Bell, Jamie Park and Kieran Hayman (Year 10) plus Jamie Zhao, Andy Graham, Tianna White and Jennifer Hardman (Year 9.) Alan Heaton, the swimming coach at Dalton Pool was delighted with our ‘Buddies’ saying that they were the best he’d ever seen.

Multi Skills Academy:
Pupils selected from the Multi Skills Clubs have been enjoying twilight sessions, to develop their potential. To date, 31 pupils from 13 junior schools have enjoyed the following activities: Table-tennis, racket skills, trampolining and hockey.

Year 10 Leadership – BTEC Sport & Outdoor Education Students Once again our Year 10 students have been brilliant as leaders, helping out with Fun Runs for pupils from the cluster Infants schools. Luckily the rain held off for the Reception and year 1 & 2 events which took place in May and June.

Junior Sport Leaders
Thanks also to our JSLA students who worked with pupils and staff from Victoria Infants School, on their Activity Morning: a Fun Run for years 1 & 2, followed by multi sport activities, in Hoops.

Gymnastics Leaders Following on from their success as Gym Judges, three year 10 pupils - Charlotte Dunstan, Alisha Cooksey & Cameron MacDonald have been helping out at Victoria Infants School, assisting with their gym club.

Sports Volunteers A special mention goes to Molly Horne for all her hard work, helping after school at Dane Ghyll, running their netball club. Molly has accrued over 25 voluntary hours and is due for a certificate at ‘Distinction’ level.

Sports Ambassadors James Bonner and Adam Bell were selected to represent Thorncliffe as the Year 11 ambassadors. They will be representing the voice of sports students in the school and will assist with intra sport events and other activities. Best of luck boys!

Orienteering Helpers – Yr 9
Chris Savage, Jennifer Hardman, Tianna White and Hannah Moore deserve a pat on the back for their hard work, running the Thorncliffe Cluster orienteering competition on 3rd June. They will make great Sports Leaders in Year 10 are a credit to the school.

Sportability Event: Primary Well done to our year 10 sports leaders who helped out at this, the first event of its kind for year 5 & 6 pupils, which was held in Hoops gym on 12th June. Jessica Flower, Emma Parke & James Bonner.

Sportability Event: Secondary This terms’ event was held at St. Bernard’s School on 17th June. Pupils from each school joined together and played cricket and rounders. Congratulations to David Crowe who took a great catch off the wall during the indoor cricket and to all the participants.

RACE FOR LIFE Many congratulations to all the girls and staff who took part in this year’s event at Barrow Park on Sunday 8th June. It was great to see so many girls and ladies of all ages enjoying the race. See you all next year!
