‘Strictly Come Dancing’
The end of the school year saw our GCSE and AS students sit their dance exams. It has been a very hard year, but there was some very impressive choreography and I’m sure their hard work will be well rewarded in August!
Rugby, A Woman’s Sport!!
During the Easter break, 3x Y11 and 2x Y10 UVHS girls went to a rugby training camp at Broughton Park in Manchester. During the week-ends training were chosen to attend a High Performance Academy for U18’s and the 2 Y10’s were on the reserve list. This is a great achievement for the girls, considering they have only been playing for 12 months.
Take to the Hills
What fantastic weather in May for our AS Walking Assessment. Seven Y12 students completed a gruelling 6 hour walk starting at Wasdale Head and finishing in Eskdale. All will score high marks for their achievement.
‘Playleaders Rule’
Croftlands Juniors have a new PLT who wanted a refresher Play Leader course. This was duly delivered by Mrs Jackson and Croftlands Juniors now has 18 new Playleaders. Well done!!
Multi Skills Club
Mrs Jackson ran a 6 week Multi Skills Club at UVHS for Y5 Gifted and Talented PE pupils, 24-28 turned up each week for cricket, fitness, table tennis, rounders and basketball. From this group, 10 were picked to work with 10 pupils from the Dowdales cluster; here they tried short tennis, rock climbing, hockey, aerobics and trampolining.
Orienteer, and see The World!
In April, 3 teams from UVHS went to Edinburgh for the World Schools Orienteering Championships.
The Senior girls finished in the top 29 ( Kate came a commendable 5th); the Junior boys were placed 5th and the Junior girls 10th overall.
Well done to all who competed, it’s a pity it wasn’t somewhere a little more exotic!!
Would you volunteer to do that?!
As part of a yearly survey, Mrs Jackson needed to know how many of our students are actively involved with sports volunteering; she carried an audit which gave her some interesting results and a great insight into some of the things our young people do in their spare time.
Next year, Mrs Jackson will be catching up with these students to give them a volunteering log book so that their hard work can be rewarded.
